In one weeks time we will finally find out if this was all just one terrible mistake….
After a scorching stonker of a week in North Wales as my last paid employment for a whole year, we’ve moved out, tied up all our dangly loose ends, SORN’d vehicles, found our passports and are now faced with a week of goodbyes.
My least favourite greeting of all.

I’ve already broken my phone.
I didn’t ever find the tent pegs I was 85% sure I would.
And I’ve replaced my rain jacket for one over half the weight but also probably half the good.

My cat is being surprisingly loving. I was hoping he’d continue to be a bastard so leaving him was easier.
Some things the current me still needs to think about / do:
- Read about how unlikely I am to die in a plane crash (Flying with confidence).
- Find out who is responsible for all the murders in my current Agatha Christie book.
- Wear in my shoes.
- Lounge around.
- Remember the rings for Saturdays wedding.
- Buy a pencil.
- Buy a mini bic lighter.
- Get a buzz cut (jokes!) a haircut.
- Work out if the points on this list should have full stops at the end, or not, or a mix of the two.
Some things the poor sod that is the future me will need to worry about:
- If our Greyhound from Tucson is delayed (likely) will we have enough time to buy pack and send our first three resupply boxes before leaving for the border?
- How hot is the desert, I mean really?
- Will the Gila River be running low enough for us to hike through it?
- Is the trail really as hard to navigate as people make out?
- Is there still snow in New Mexico?
- Will I need an ice axe?
- How much like the Revenant is this trail going to be after their record snow year?
Future me, what a sucker.
On with the goodbyes!

Will miss you both hugely, already looking forward to your return……will send out emergency marmite and m&s jelly caterpillars

I remember saying goodbye to you as a 14 year old (you not me) as I took you to the departure gate at Gatwick as you flew off to your Uncle Paul in the USA single handedly (ie. without my expert fatherly guidance). You wore a free Virgin Air rucksack, you stopped, turned to me and waved. It was that sad.
